Internet Public Access Policy
Approved: Board of Supervisors
Date:  October 20, 2004, Revised, May 19, 2008
Section:  3501

Mohave County Library District offers public access computers in all our libraries at no charge, except for printing.

The number of computers, session times and reservations may vary by location.  Wireless Internet is also available at all the libraries for laptops, notebooks, PDAs and other wireless equipment.

This policy acts as a guideline for our patrons and is binding to all who use Mohave County Library District facilities.  Violation of this policy may result in a temporary or permanent suspension of the use of library equipment and/or facilities, consistent with the Standards of Acceptable Library Behavior Policy.

In order to use the public computers patrons must have a Library Card or Guest Pass.  Patrons may apply for a card at any of the Mohave County libraries.  A temporary guest pass, good for one day, is also available for patrons age 18 and over with valid ID or for minors accompanied by a responsible adult.

In accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13 Chapter 35 and Federal laws, Internet access on the public computers and on the wireless service will be filtered to screen out sexually explicit and objectionable web sites.  This filtering does not guarantee that all objectionable material will not be seen.  It is the district’s policy to comply with the requirements of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).  In doing so, the district understands that the required technology protection measures may not be fully effective in blocking intended sites and may inadvertently block unintended sites.  The filtering may temporarily be removed for those 18 and over.  CIPA requires that everyone age 17 and under use the protection measures.  Parents may not authorize that the protection be disabled for their children.  Mohave County Library District will not allow sexually explicit web sites to be displayed and patrons will be advised to refrain from viewing such websites.

The Library District’s wireless network is NOT SECURED and information sent to and from a laptop, notebook, PDA or other wireless device can be captured by anyone with a wireless device.

Mohave County Library is not responsible for providing technical assistance and does not “guarantee” wireless connection.  The library encourages parents to supervise their children’s use of the Internet, as with all other aspects of the library’s collections and services.  Library staff do not act in place of a parent to determine what a child may access.
