Public Access Computer Guidelines

Approved: Board of Supervisors
 Date: 11/19/97, Rev. 11/06/00
 Section: 3502

1. A Public Access Computer (PAC) may be reserved up to one week in advance. Reservations can be made either in person or over the phone. Those arriving 15 minutes late forfeit their reserved time and must reschedule.

2. An advance appointment for a PAC is limited to one one-hour session, including time to start the session, printing, and closing the session.

3. To begin using the PAC, see library staff to start your session, and please notify staff when you are finished, so they can log you off the session.

4. A fee will be charged for printing. THE LIBRARY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PRINTING ERRORS.

5. Unscheduled downtime is possible due to technical difficulties. In the event you are scheduled to use a PAC during an unscheduled downtime, you may reschedule your session.

6. The library encourages parents to supervise their children’s Internet use. LIBRARY STAFF DO NOT ACT IN THE PLACE OF A PARENT TO RESTRICT WHAT A CHILD MAY ACCESS.

7. Library staff have the right to limit the number of people at a workstation.

8. Library staff have the right to ask those who do not comply with the Standards of Acceptable Library Behavior to leave the library. Continued abuse may result in being banned from the library.

9. Using your own software or hardware is prohibited.

10. You are responsible for any damage to the PAC hardware or software resulting from misuse, including, but not limited to, introducing a virus, or modifying or deleting installed software, and vandalizing hardware.

11. If you experience any computer problems, do not attempt to solve the problem yourself. See library staff for assistance.

12. Library staff may be able to offer brief suggestions and answer some questions. They cannot provide individual training. Staff may not always be available to assist you.
